As iMediaEthics previously reported, in January the Village Voice retracted and apologized for one of its stories by Rob Sgobbo, a freelancer who admitted to fabricating sources. The Huffington Post later retracted Sgobbo’s story on its site as a result of the incident and the New York Daily News, where Sgobbo was a freelancer, said in a statement to Gawker that it was looking into Sgobbo’s stories for the Daily News.
iMediaEthics wrote to the Daily News last week to ask what the results were of that investigation. The Daily News’, Jennifer Mauer, Director of Communications, responded:
“The Daily News has removed all articles from our website that were written by Rob Sgobbo and posted the following message:
“The Daily News has removed the article that was linked here because the writer, Robert Sgobbo, a former News freelancer, has admitted fabricating sources. As a result, we don’t believe our readers can rely on the accuracy of any of his work.”
iMediaEthics has also written to Sgobbo for comment and will update with any response.
