Occupy London Protesters File PCC Complaint

Protesters involved with the Occupy London protest complained to the UK print regulatory body the Press Complaints Commission, the Guardian reported.

In question is articles alleging that “90% of tents at the site [of the protest] were left empty overnight.,” the Guardian explained. The UK Telegraph is credited with first reporting on this story, but news outlets including the Times, the Daily Express and the Daily Mail reported on the story.

However, the Occupy London protesters tested the story by using the “exact same thermal camera” that the Telegraph used to determine the occupancy of the tents, according to the Guardian. The protesters’ test of the camera, which the Guardian said it “witnessed,” indicated that the camera can’t “‘see’ inside tents using the camera as there is not enough of a heat signature.”  Therefore, the reports that the camera proved 90% of tents were empty isn’t accurate, under the protesters’ tent, the Guardian explained.

The protesters complaint with the PCC is over accuracy.
