Frank Vincent, the character actor who appeared in the HBO television series The Sopranos, as well as the films Casino and Goodfellas, died last month. But how old was he when he died? Some media outlets reported Vincent was 80 and others reported he was 78.
An obituary for Vincent, posted on Legacy.com, reported he was 78 at death. That was the age reported by the UK Mirror, the BBC, Huffington Post UK, the UK Daily Mail, the UK International Business Times, the Chicago Sun-Times, Variety, Sky News, Ireland’s RTE, among other new outlets.
But, his obituary on the Star-Ledger‘s website and the funeral home, as well as news stories in the New York Times, CNN , Guardian, The Hollywood Reporter and Los Angeles Times reported he was 80.
iMediaEthics looked to see which was correct. NPR reported, “Family members told the AP that Vincent was 80; other sources have listed his age as 78, saying he was born in 1939. His official bio page does not provide a birth year.”
That said, Vincent’s IMDB (Internet Movie Database) page says he was born in 1937, making him 80 at death.
iMediaEthics has also written to Vincent’s representatives to confirm.
