PCC: Newspapers Shouldn’t Have ID’ed Teenager

UK print regulatory body the Press Complaints Commission ruled that Scottish newspapers the Wishaw Press and Hamilton Advertiser broke the PCC’s code of conduct by publishing picture of a 13-year-old girl and naming her in an article, Journalism.co.uk reported.

The girl is the granddaughter of a Scottish Parliament member, John PentlandAccording to Journalism.co.uk, the articles alleged that a local government council paid for her taxi use. While the newspapers noted “her father had commented in the story, leading them to believe that it would not be a problem to publish the photo,” the PCC argued that the newspapers could have reported the story without naming the girl.
