The Philippines’ Department of Social Welfare and Development hosted “forum on Social Media Ethics” that also addressed “standards in reporting of children’s cases,” the government’s Philippine Information Agency reported.
The mid-November event promoted the department’s “Guide for Media Practitioners on the Reporting and Coverage of Cases Involving Children,” which emphasizes “children’s absolute right to privacy” and “dignity,” according to Sun Star.
Media outlets ABS-CBN and GMA, children’s groups SOS Children’s Village, and Iloilo Children Foundation, and others attended the forum, according to the government agency.
iMediaEthics has written to the Department of Social Welfare and Development and ABS-CBN asking for more information about the forum, its attendees, the guide on reporting on children, and the social media ethics aspect of the forum. We’ll update with any response.
