Press Gazette editor, Dominic Ponsford, advised the media “sharpen up on ethics training” in light of the News of the World scandal, Scottish media news site the Drum reported.

Ponsford’s remarks, made in an editor’s blog, commented that private investigator Glenn Mulcaire clearly had “no professional training whatsoever” even though he was working for “the UK’s top-selling Sunday newspaper.”

While Ponsford noted that “the vast majority of journalists in the UK” are professional and trained, he recommended that the Press Complaints Commission, which has been heavily criticized because of the phone hacking scandal, require that UK journalists and “any third party agencies or lone operators” hired by news organizations follow “high professional standards.”
