As iMediaEthics has reported, Irish public broadcaster RTE issued a long apology to priest Father Kevin Reynolds after the Irish public broadcaster wrongly reported that he had raped a girl and fathered her child. Before the claims were aired, Reynolds denied the accusations and offered to take a paternity test, which RTE declined.
Because of the apology and error, RTE recently asked Ireland’s press ombudsman John Horgan to review its editorial practices.
But, RTE’s mea culpas don’t end there. According to the Irish Times, RTE is to pay Reynolds “more than €1 million, including costs.”
