The Scottish Sun was called out by the Press Complaints Commission for being insensitive and invasion of privacy when publishing pictures from a funeral last fall.
The photos showed the family of Sir Chris Hoy at a funeral for Hoy’s uncle. According to the BBC, Hoy is “Great Britain’s most successful Olympian Sir Chris Hoy.”
A woman named Rosemary MacLeod complained to the PCC “on behalf of the Hoy family” over the photos and the accompanying news report that indicated “a reporter had attended the service,” the PCC reported.
According to the PCC’s press release, the Sun apologized but defended the coverage since Hoy was there. But, since the paper was asked to leave on two separate occasions, the PCC ruled that the Sun should have known it was being insensitive and invasive, even if a public figure was at the funeral.
