On Aug. 12, car drove through a crowd protesting a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, killing Heather Heyer and injuring 19. Yesterday, The Daily Caller and Fox News’ Fox Nation website both unpublished an article and video that were originally published in January that joked about techniques of driving a car through liberal protesters.
The post, originally published Jan. 29, featured a video clip and stated, “Here’s a compilation of liberal protesters getting pushed out of the way by cars and trucks. Study the technique; it may prove useful in the next four years. None of these clips are new, but that doesn’t mean they’re not still fresh.”
The article was re-published on Fox Nation’s website and was written by the Daily Caller‘s Mike Raust. The Daily Caller is a conservative news site co-founded in 2010 by Tucker Carlson.
The link to the Daily Caller‘s story now re-directs to the site’s homepage, but a cache is available. The Fox Nation article link now goes to an error page, but there is an archive available through the Wayback Machine. The article was published Jan. 29, 2017 and was deleted Aug. 15.
iMediaEthics contacted both the Daily Caller and Fox News to ask why the post was published to begin with and why it was removed today. “The item was inappropriate and we’ve taken it down. We regret posting it in January,” Noah Kotch, the editor-in-chief of Fox News Digital, is quoted as saying in a statement sent to iMediaEthics.
“Fox was far from the only outlet to pick up Raust’s post,” CNN reported. “Smaller conservative sites like Right Wing News and Conservative Post also published the video, and with glee.”
