The Guardian’s Alistair Campbell questioned what he called the British media’s lack of reporting on the phone hacking allegations. According to Campbell, outside of The Guardian, UK media reporting of the allegations only focuses on any “arrests or resignations.”
But, the British media did heavily report on the superinjunctions case, like that of Ryan Giggs, the soccer player who reportedly got gagging order from the courts to prevent UK media from naming him in reports of an affair with former Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas. Campbell suggested that the other media outlets aren’t reporting on the phone hacking “for reasons likely to do with their own use or condoning of such practices.” He added that it seems that UK newspapers “want a [legal] system where there should be one law for the media, and its day-to-day assessment of what is in the public interest, and another for everyone else.”
