PhotoshopDisasters almost never fails to make me laugh out loud. Unwitting graphic designers who hurry too fast leave a trail of hilarious mistakes that one wonders how they could ever have been missed before publication.
Whether advertising or journalism, PhotoshopDisasters has a stream of sharp-eyed volunteers who send in the flawed layouts that appear in magazines, newspapers, or packaging.
Take the one above of the first lady of France. The extra hand is both funny and strangely repulsive. The web site gives “Thanks to Cecile!” who sent in the image she discovered in Closer Magazine. At the time I read this submission, there were 45 comments. Ebony McKenna was helpful commenting “And she has a third hand to hold her purse!” Bald Outing added, “haha that is so ridiculous that no one noticed that before it was published.”
The subjects aren’t always fashion or gossip. Sometimes it’s sports. For example, there’s the recent Oslo Grand Prix harness racing advertisement. Geir sent in an ad with an image of, what appears to be, a pacing horse not a trotter. The problem is you can’t tell because there are too many legs! I counted six legs and 72 comments about them.
So join the fun. The web site invites submissions. “Have you seen a truly awful piece of Photoshop work? Clumsy manipulation, senseless comping, lazy cloning and thoughtless retouching are our bread and butter. And yes, deep down, we love Photoshop. If it is commercial and awful then please let us know! Anonymity can be arranged for the easily embarrassed/canned. Although I am hopeless at replying to email, be assured that each and every tip is followed up.”
