The Toronto Star published 403 print corrections this year, Star public editor Kathy English reported.
About a quarter of the corrections were “preventable errors” related to identifying people, English wrote. The Star also published 582 corrections to “web-only content.” about double last year’s count (280).
“That increase is largely a result of increased efforts by the newsroom to report real-time online corrections to the public editor’s office and our own increased efforts to record those corrections as they occur,” she wrote.
In 2012, the Star published 415 print corrections and in 2011, 366. In 2011, only 68 of 366 print corrections were because of name errors.
In 2010, the Star published 328 corrections in print.
