The Sunday Mercury took down Dec. 4 article about the death of a man named Francis Haydock after his family complained that it was insensitive and misleading, the UK Press Complaints Commission wrote.
The Sunday Mercury is a weekly Trinity Mirror-owned newspaper in Birmingham, UK, according to Mondo Times.
The article reported Haydock was “computer addict” and “computer game obsessive.” The Sunday Mercury didn’t agree that the article was “excessive and misleading,” but agreed to take down the article and post a clarification that “Haydock was neither described as an ‘obsessive’ nor an ‘addict’ at the inquest,” according to the PCC.
His family also complained that the Birmingham Mail’s report on Haydock’s death was insensitive and misleading.
The Birmingham Mail, a daily Trinity Mirror-owned newspaper in Birmingham, UK, also denied that its article was misleading or insensitive, and “responded substantively to the complaint by explaining the background to its coverage,” according to the PCC.
