Ugandan Newspaper The Rolling Stone to Appeal Ban of Outing Homosexuals?

Ugandan newspaper The Rolling Stone intends to appeal this week’s ruling that Ugandan media can’t out homosexuals.  The newspaper had published a series of articles “outing” 100 homosexuals (homosexual acts are illegal in Uganda).

According to the Advocate, The Rolling Stone’s lawyers have started “preparing an affidavit to set foot in the court of appeal.”

“We are also going to get signatures from Ugandans,” The Rolling Stone managing editor Giles Muhame reportedly said. The Rolling Stone has no affiliation with the U.S.-based Rolling Stone magazine.

UPDATE: 1/6/2011 12:31 PM EST: The Rolling Stone’s managing editor Giles Muhame responded to StinkyJournalism’s e-mail inquiry, redirecting us to this note he posted on Facebook.  In the Jan. 3 note, Muhame commented that the homosexual people the newspaper outed were already pictured on “gay-networking website – gaydar.co.uk.”  He claimed that the ruling “puts media freedom at stake.”   See his note here.
