UK Music Mag NME Apologizes to Morrissey for Suggesting Racism, Morrissey’s Libel Lawsuit in Court Next Month

UK  music news magazine NME (New Musical Express) apologized June 12 for an article about singer Morrissey that led to lawsuit, Rolling Stone reported.

In question is the 2007 article “Morrissey: Big Mouth Strikes Again,” over which Morrissey filed a libel lawsuit for what he said was editing his interview to suggest he is “xenophobic and anti-immigration,” Rolling Stone reported.

NME‘s apology, which Rolling Stone noted “comes as the July court date for Morrissey’s libel suit…approaches,” reads in part:

“We wish to make clear that we do not believe that he is a racist; we didn’t think we were saying he was and we apologise to Morrissey if he or anyone else misunderstood our piece in that way. We never set out to upset Morrissey and we hope we can both get back to doing what we do best.”
