News Corp. has settled “nine out of 10 remaining cases in first wave of suits” over phone hacking accusations, including the lawsuits filed by comedian Steve Coogan and former media adviser Alastair Campbell, the New York Times reported.
We wrote last month when News International announced settlements with 37 phone hacking victims, including actor Jude Law.
In that first set of lawsuits, an active lawsuit is still filed by singer Charlotte Church. And, according to the Times, “six more suits had been filed and 50 were being prepared.”
We wrote last month when Church filed libel lawsuit against UK newspaper The People after it ran a fake story about her. During Church’s November testimony to the Leveson Inquiry into UK press standards, she slammed media coverage of her and her family, including the Sun’s reporting on her pregnancy “before she even told her family” and other “examples of media intrusion and inaccuracy” in her life.
