Utah Valley Magazine published an apology for photo headline “Women of Color” that accompanied a photo of seven white women in brightly colored clothing, Jim Romenesko reported.
The apology reads:
“We would like to apologize to anyone offended by the headline ‘Women of Color’ in the most recent issue of Utah Valley Magazine. No offense was intended whatsoever. We have changed the headline in our online version to read ‘Colorful Women’ to more accurately describe the article and overall content of this issue.”
Gawker had written July 9 questioning the headline and reporting that the magazine’s editor Jeanette Bennett said the headline “was not intended as an ethnic comment” but “just clever wordplay. It was that women add color, and there’s more than one meaning of color.”
