Washington Post Had 875 Print Corrections in 2011

Meanwhile, Washington Post’ public editor Patrick Pexton reported that the newspaper ran 875 print corrections in 2011, the lowest number of corrections since the newspaper started tracking correction counts, he wrote.

According to Pexton, in 2010, the newspaper ran 1,054 corrections. In 2005, the Post ran 1,300 corrections.

Significantly, Pexton noted that his count of corrections excludes online corrections.  Pexton called for the Post to start tracking online mistakes — “at least the more significant ones, such as fact inaccuracies and misspellings” — and called for an online corrections page.
