Where did Subway Shut Down Story Come From?

The New York Times’ Brian Stelter questioned where the reports that Occupy Wall Street protesters in New York City would shut down the subways originated.

According to Stelter, New York’s Fox affiliate, WNYW told viewers that the protesters would “shut down” subways but provided “no evidence of such a plan.”  The Times asked the station where the information came from, and the station indicated it was re-reporting information with its comment that “it’s been reported elsewhere.”

However, the Times reported: “According to a search of transcripts of local broadcasts, other stations in New York City briefly suggested that the protesters might try to shut down the transit system, but not to the same extent as the Fox station.”
