iMediaEthics reported yesterday about the latest group of files to be leaked from WikiLeaks — the Guantanamo Files. The Guardian noted in its live blog about the leaks that WikiLeaks “seems to have reverted to publishing material without redaction.” According to The Guardian’s James Ball, WikiLeaks hasn’t been redacting — or removing some information like “sensitive personal information on detainees and information about informants” from the documents it’s publishing.
According to Ball, The Guardian removed “information on informants except in a few very special cases such as where the informant was dead, or already well known in the public domain.”
In its report on the leaks, Columbia Journalism Review noted that the documents in the Guantanamo leak “are an average of two to twelve pages in length.” CJR added Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, Italian weekly news magazine L’espresso and freelance journalist Andy Worthingon as WikiLeaks “news partners.”
