Wikileaks source, Bradley Manning Moved to Leavenworth

Bradley Manning has been moved from Virginia’s Quantico base to Kansas’s Fort Leavenworth prison.

“Pentagon officials said more extensive mental, emotional and physical health care will be available” to Manning there, the Washington Post reported.  “The fact that we have made a decision to transfer this particular pretrial confine … should not be interpreted as a criticism of the place he was before,” Pentagon lawyer Jeh Johnson reportedly said.

Meanwhile, Manning’s lawyer David Coombs continues to assert Manning has been poorly treated at Quantico, calling Manning’s treatment “flagrant violations of his constitutional rights.”

The Post noted that Manning’s transfer is just “a bit more than a week after a U.N. torture investigator complained that he was denied a request to make an unmonitored visit to Manning.”

That investigator, Juan Mendez, reportedly said the U.S. Defense Department only would let him have an “official visit” with Manning, which would let them meet without guards.
