WSJ Reporter Resigns, Broke Conduct Code, Showed Stories pre-publication

Wall Street Journal reporter Gina Chon resigned for “sharing certain unpublished news articles with Brett McGurk, then member of the U.S. National Security Council in Iraq,” the New York Observer reported a Dow Jones spokesperson said.

The Wall Street Journal’s own report on the resignation quoted a spokesperson saying “At this time, the Journal has found no evidence that her coverage was tainted by her relationship with Mr. McGurk” and that it broke the company’s Code of Conduct.

Chon later married McGurk, and their 2008 e-mails were recently leaked, the Observer noted. In previous article, the Observer explained McGurk is “nominated as ambassador to Iraq.”  The Washington Post noted that Chon “failed to disclose to her editor” the relationship then.
